We adopted our cat, Tidbit, the first week of August from a Humane Society. They said he had been left in the parking lot with a broken foot but he was okay to adopt. He was living in a cat colony at the time and came up to use every time we came to visit. My daughter had originally gone to get a new car since her companion of many years had passed of kidney failure in January. When we took the cat home we noticed bloody spots on the carpet and since he had a scab where his cast had been removed we thought he was picking on that. We took him to the vet every four days for six weeks getting him bandaged but we kept having problems. Then we tried a couple of weeks of him wearing a cone. A second opinion revealed that the back foot had been totally crushed and there were dead bone chips in there causing an infection. Now we must decide whether or not to try surgery or amputate and the surgery seems like it would be harder on the cat and a lot more expensive. This has cost us almost $600 already. We are looking for ideas, resources and support.
We just took in a feral kitty with a broken leg. Had to amputate. Indeed reconstructive surgery can be a lot more complicated and more expensive. You can try for another opinion (more money) , and of course amputation is an option. I just kinda blundered into your post here, you may try posting in the forum, there is a place for tripawd kitties and the people are outstanding. Good luck to you, wishing you all the best!
Oh goodness…just saw your blog lost.
Suggestion: Move your post over to the forums and start a thread for your precious Tidvit.
The reason I say thst is these vlogs go up and down quickly so etimes and you need some immediate feedback. You will get some incredible information!
I’ll add that a lot of times it’s never just about “one” surgery when it comes to “repairs”
With an amputation, it’s ONE surgery, a little rough recovery time for a week or so, and DONE!! We even have a two-legged kitty on the site who will astound you with her mobility! 🙂
There’s a start here li nk on the home page that will help you starting a thread in the forums. Just trying to get you some feedback a bit further.
Lots of hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
